Starz is bringing one of its foundational original series — along with one of its characters — back to life.

Spartacus creator, writer and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight serves as showrunner and executive producer. Tarabay will reprise the character he played in the hit Starz series Spartacus on the new spin-off series, which was recently given the greenlight by the network. The series will see Nick Tarabay return as Ashur, while original “Spartacus” series creator Steven S. DeKnight onboard as executive producer and showrunner. The show was first reported to be in development back in February. Series creator Steven S. DeKnight will serve as showrunner, and Nick Tarabay will reprise his role of Ashur from the former series.

Nick Tarabay will reprise his role as Ashur in the project, with series creator Steven S. DeKnight also returning. Ashur was a stand-out character from Starz’s Spartacus universe but was killed off from the show in the second season, cutting his story short. Nick Tarabay will reunite with DeKnight to reprise the role of the titular Ashur, the baddy from the mothership series you can’t help but cheer for while equally despising him.

After Whitfield was diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin lymphoma following the first season, Starz filmed a prequel miniseries, Gods of the Arena, featuring some characters from the main series. After Whitfield’s death in 2011, Liam McIntyre took over the role of Spartacus for the final two seasons, subtitled Vengeance and War of the Damned.
